Senior INS / GNSS Algorithms Engineer

Navmatic is looking for a Senior Algorithms Engineer to develop efficient, reliable and scalable software for INS/GNSS systems as well as research and prototype our next generation of positioning technologies. We’re a small team - you’ll have the chance to significantly shape our future. This position reports to the CTO and can either be located in the SF Bay Area or remotely, within a few time zones from PST.

Why Navmatic?

Navmatic is focused on making micromobility easier and safer for riders and reducing cost for micromobility operators . Despite advances in GNSS technology, current scooter positioning systems still regularly experience 10-50 meter errors in dense urban environments.

Navmatic is focused on unlocking 50 cm accuracy by fusing state of the art INS/GNSS sensor fusion algorithms with proprietary algorithms for improving GNSS positioning availability, even when only a few satellites are seen.

Why Micromobility?

The micromobility industry, composed of scooter and bike share fleets, is growing very rapidly.

Between 2018 and 2019, the number of scooter trips taken by people in the US grew by 100% and the number of cities allowing dockless scooter programs increased by 45%. (Source: NACTO, Shared Micromobility in the US: 2019)

Despite COVID-19, micromobility travel is expected to make “a strong postpandemic recovery” and by 2030, a predicted “boost of 5 to 10 percent in the number of passenger-kilometers traveled compared with our base case [modeling from 2019]”. (Source: McKinsey, The future of micromobility)

What you’ll do:

  • Design, implement, test, and iterate on positioning systems fusing INS, GNSS, and other sensors

  • Research and prototype new technologies and algorithms

  • Collaborate with the entire team to write well tested, clean code and participate in code and design reviews

Who you are:

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing GNSS and INS sensor fusion algorithms in industry

  • Solid software engineering skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excited to work collaboratively with a small, highly technical team

Bonus:

  • Experience with embedded systems and/or cloud computing

Our Benefits Package:

  • Competitive benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, 401(k)

  • We aim for a sustainable approach to work/life balance because we know that’s the best way to maximize our long-term productivity.

  • Flexibility: we are located in San Jose, CA but are happy for you to work remotely if you are located around +/- 3 hours PST.
